Veka fabricator Piper Double Glazing was able to fit in with medieval and modern - and even look to the future - when it took up the challenge of replacing more than 5,000 windows throughout Canterbury City Council's housing stock.
Ramsgate based Piper will use Veka's advanced Vertical Slider close to the city's conservation areas alongside the tilt/turn and casements for its sixties built tower blocks and its suburban estates. It is also showing a thought for the future generations by agreeing to send all old PVC-u frames to the supplier's closed-loop recycling unit.
"Canterbury is one of the most historic cities in the country, it has buldings dating right back to the seventh century within walking distance of modern residentail areas, including social housing, so the contract demands a sympathetic soution for every area, all up to and beyond the spec demanded."
Piper faced an open tender to win the three year contract, with an option to add a further two years. The old PVC-u frames will go to the Veka Recycling unit at Swanscombe before being processed to a purity to be put straight back into new windows profile.
